Board of Directors and Their Privacy

Hello All!

Since taking on the roll as Chair of our civic league I have had the pleasure of meeting many members, neighbors in my community I had not had the pleasure of meeting previously. On numerous occasions these wonderful encounters have unexpectedly taken place on my door step. Now I know we wouldn't stop by the door of our supermarket clerk asking what the specials for next week might be and we wouldn't show up on the Mayors door step asking her what was on the agenda for the next city council meeting. To protect the privacy of our Board of Directors please do not show up unannounced to the homes of these individuals. They deserve our respect and the common courtesies we extend to all other neighbors. The appropriate venue for approaching these wonderful individuals who have stepped up to volunteer their time for the betterment of our neighborhoods would be at our regularly scheduled meetings, via our email address at cafcivicleague@yahoo.com, through our CONTACT US link on this web page or mail at PO BOX 62651 Virginia Beach, VA 23466. The only time we should come to the home of a Board Member is when we have been invited to do so for a scheduled meeting or through an appointment we have made with the individual. Your respect for the privacy of our Board of Directors is greatly appreciated. We love what we are doing and enjoy meeting all of you!
Thank You!
Cherese Jenks

January 22, Voice Your Opinion to the City

From the City of Virginia Beach
Department of Parks and Recreation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Jan. 17, 200 2007

FOR MORE INFORMATION: Brian Solis (757) 385-1109

Monday, January 22 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm
Agriculture Conference Room, Building 14, 2nd Floor
Virginia Beach Municipal Center

(Virginia Beach, VA) City of Virginia Beach Department of Parks & Recreation would like citizens’ input regarding preserving open space in the community.
Please attend the next meeting of the Open Space Subcommittee of the Parks and Recreation Commission on Monday, January 22 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm in the Agriculture Conference Room, Building 14 on the 2nd floor. For more information about this public meeting, please contact the Department of Parks & Recreation at 385-1100.

The concept of an Open Space Program was initiated through City Council's vision, the 1998 City Council-appointed Open Space Advisory Committee's recommendations, and Virginia Beach residents' desire to create a program for preserving open space through a strategic process.

The foundation for the Open Space Program was created by identifying and prioritizing potential open space sites throughout the City to serve future outdoor recreational public purposes: to preserve Cultural and Natural Areas; to preserve and provide public access to Greenways, Beaches and Scenic Waterways; to provide land for future Parks and Athletic Facilities; and to provide connectivity to community resources through Trails. Those priorities were published in the Virginia Beach Outdoors Plan 2000 Update, "An Initiative to Preserve Open Space for Physical and Visual Enjoyment." Over 1,000 Virginia Beach residents were involved in helping staff develop the recommendations of the 2000 Update.

Suspicious Phone Call

I wanted to alert you all to a phone call I believe to be a scam. I personally just received a suspicious phone call it was from someone representing themselves as a charity to assist families of police killed in the line of duty. He let me know he wanted to send me one of their decals and a donation slip and asked if it would be OK to do that. I said there must be a reason you need to ask my permission because most mail solicitors don't ask they just mass mail. He said because we need to verify your information. I asked him if he needed me to give him my information or if he already had it. He stated he already had my information and then, told me my address. He asked again if it would be OK to mail this out to me. This really seemed suspicious to me so, I asked are you marking a predetermined donation amount on that form and then, billing me and he said yes. So, I declined the offer.
I see how many people may just say yes, you can send a donation slip to me thinking if I am not interested I will just throw it away. However, this man was trying to get me to say yes to a very vague question without letting me know I was actually committing to a dollar amount and being billed. I just thought you all should be aware in the event this solicitor contacts you.
Stay Safe!

I have researched this a little further and this is a scam.....report it if you receive calls.

DISCUSSION: Cherese worked with Jeff Middleton, Traffic Engineer, in obtaining a 'traffic calming sign' that displays speed. This was lent for our use on Sir Barton for several days, and it had a beneficial impact on slowing down the traffic. It was decided to request the use of this sign again for doing the same on: Susquehanna, S. Newtown, Challedon and Coventry in that order. Cherese will contact Point of View Elementary to request a conversation with the buses traveling in and out of the school who are not maintaining safe speeds. If this first stage of calming does not work we can move to the next level and try to secure an undercover officer to issue tickets. A ticket issued in an area zoned for traffic calming has a minimum fine of $200.

Fake Do Not Call Emails

I am not sure if you are all aware or not but, I am the Ombudsman for my husbands command. I often receive wonderful information that should be shared with everyone to make them aware and keep them safe and secure. As that type of information passes through my hands I will post it here for your knowledge.
I checked out the link below. It was informative and worth checking out. It came after I received 3 emails on the Do Not Call Registry from an unknown sender. I just deleted the emails because you never know when someone is just fishing for your information. I felt wonderful about deleting those emails after reading this.

Cherese

Please forward to your families
